TUMBLER is a drinkware project exploring form, function, and CMF. Different tumbler profiles were explored. I wanted to explore forms that were simple but not boring, expressive yet functional. Besides exploring different profiles, I explored different lid designs. I considered: intuitiveness of use (is it apparent how the lid is opened/closed?), ease of use (can it be open/closed with one hand?), sealing against leaks, fiddle factor, and delightful experience.

Concept 1. Asymmetrical top for an iconic profile as well as a distinct identification of open and closed state. Straight tapered sides with a generous rounded base gives off a clean, simple, and friendly aesthetic.

The outside of the lid is free to rotate while the inside of the lid (drinking surface) stays fixed. Rotating the outside of the lid 180° unseals the opening from the inside (similar to current lid design) and reveals the drinking area.

Concept 2. Pure geometric body paired with a simple rotating lid . The inset lid adds visual interest to the minimalist profile. The simplicity of the lid also makes it ideal for various materials like cork, wood, metal, or plastic

Pushing almost anywhere on the lid swings it back and out of the way exposing the drinking surface.  At the same time, the twisting motion unseals the opening from the inside.

Concept 3. Tapering the profile at the top is reminiscent of handcrafted glassware while also creating a nice surface for the lip. The simplicity of the lid again makes it ideal for various materials like cork, wood, metal, or plastic.

Pushing almost anywhere on the lid swings it back and out of the way exposing the drinking surface.  At the same time, the twisting motion unseals the opening from the inside (similar to existing lid design).  Entire lid can be easily removed by grab both the top and bottom of the lid and twist.
