As principal and the most senior designer on the team, I am responsible for leading and contributing to individual projects as well as leading the industrial design team. I am also responsible for providing design direction for Owlet’s visual brand language and Owlet’s ecosystem of products which include hardware, soft goods, and wearable electronics. My other responsibilities include:
Collaborate with researchers, product managers, and parenting experts to understand user needs and create user-centered design solutions.
Collaborate with the design team to create purposeful but elegant design solutions for a wide range of products. Constantly challenging the team to push boundaries and raising the bar on the quality of work.
Work closely with suppliers, manufacturing, and engineering teams through the development and production process to ensure proper design execution.
Work with marketing, sales, and retail partners to design packaging and point of purchase displays for our ecosystem of products.
Create compelling visual presentations and stories for cross-functional and executive teams.
Envision future products through blue sky explorations and lead discussions with cross-functional teams on future products and the expansion of the Owlet ecosystem.
Leadership responsibilities:
Advocate for design within the company and educate cross-functional teams on the importance of design and the value it brings.
Work with cross-functional teams to put in place design and development processes that help ensure the success of each project.
Set and execute 12-mo. goals for the industrial design team.
Deliver plan and advocate what is needed (people, processes, tools) to execute successful outcomes for the next calendar year.
Work closely with PM, PMO, and other stakeholders to define schedules and resource teams appropriately for up coming projects.
Lead and mentor a team of 3 industrial designers.

Lead Industrial Designer

As the design lead of the program, I was responsible for setting the design direction and vision of the project, ensuring it reflects the client’s brand and core values. I delivered solutions that are grounded in research and user testing to ensure the best experience for the end user. Because of the team’s success, what was only a 10 week exercise turned into a 8 month long program. Day to day efforts include:
Working with internal and external cross functional teams to ensure the success of the program.
Leading discussions on interaction, UI, and industrial design and combining them into a single holistic user experience.
Ensuring each solution is inclusive, serving users of all sizes, ages, and abilities.
Rapid prototyping ideas to validate and improve on assumptions, failing often and early to flush out the best ideas.
Exploring different CMFs and creating a CMF strategy that is reflective of the client’s brand, their current and future product lines, and appropriate for the product’s use and application.
Engage in user testing, interviews, and surveys to test and validate assumptions.
Helping the client document, implement, and execute on designs and maintain the design intent.
Working with junior designers on ideating concepts and creating deliverables for client presentations.
Interfacing with clients, and presenting to senior leadership and the CEO of the company.
GoPro
Senior Industrial Designer

As the design lead of multiple projects in GoPro’s product roadmap, my responsibilities include:
Design and develop cameras, mounts, accessories, and ecosystems while fulfilling engineering, product, and cost requirements, advocating for the customer, and staying true to the GoPro brand.
Manage and execute industrial design efforts with professional thoroughness and anticipate potential issues through each stage of the product development cycle.
Collaborate closely with the design team, cross functional teams, external vendors, and other stake holders leveraging the best ideas possible to ensure program success.
Prepare and present design proposals, concepts, and specifications to cross-functional teams and members of senior leadership.
Investigate new materials & processes and explore different CMF strategies that further strengthen the product and the brand lifestyle.
Envision future products and ecosystems to grow existing customer base and drive category growth.
Explore new products categories and push the boundaries of the brand to reach new users and to expand beyond the action-sports space.
Mentor and inspire junior designers and support the overall performance of the design team.

Industrial Designer

I led the product design and development efforts for industrial, medical, and consumer products from concept to production for a wide range of clients from startups to global corporations. Responsibilities included:
Develop strategies and guide clients through the design process and decisions through compelling visual presentations and storytelling in the form of digital sketches, storyboards, CAD, high fidelity renderings, animations, and appearance models.
Design and develop products while keeping in mind product & engineering requirements, client & brand aesthetic, manufacturing processes, part breakups, and engineering realities.
Collaborate with designers, engineers, and all stakeholders to ensure the success of each project and manage timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure projects are completed on time and on budget.
Leverage quick sketches, sketch CAD, foam/paper/cardboard models, and rapid prototyping to quickly iterate and refine concepts.
Explore and research different but similar product categories and identify trends to create a compelling CMF story for the product and the client’s brand.
Gather insights from research and turn them into meaningful products and delightful experiences.
Assist business development and project managers in defining scope of work, budgets, and timelines.

As a junior designer under the guidance of senior designers and the founder of the company, I worked on the design and development of a wide range of products including medical, home appliance, commercial, furniture, consumer electronics, and transportation. Notable work includes a collaboration with Massimo Motors on the exterior and interior styling of their most powerful HUTV (Hybrid Utility Terrain Vehicle) with the first ever iPad dashboard integration. Unveiled at the 2014 American International Motorcycle Expo.

Founded Duo Kitchenware, a company that focuses on providing safe, functional, and elegant kitchen products for people with disabilities. The company’s mission is to empower individuals of all abilities to be independent around the home and kitchen. Duo Kitchenware was born out of a student design project that won multiple awards including 1st place in the IHA (International Housewares Association) student design competition, and was also awarded funding by Arizona State University’s Edson Student Entrepreneur Initiative.

Since graduating from UC San Diego with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, I’ve spent 8 years as a mechanical design engineer and project manager designing,
Load, torque, and pressure sensors for the industrial and aerospace industry.
Manufacturing processes for the food and beverage industry.
Testing instruments and related equipment for the semiconductor industry.
Notable accomplishments include the design and manufacture of a space & flight qualified cryogenic multi-axial sensor for the NASA’s Mars Rover Curiosity.
