During my time at TACTILE, I worked closely with WATERPIK’s Director of New Products and their engineers to design and develop numerous products for WATERPIK’s oral healthcare and shower product lines. Along with designing new products for their product roadmap, I also helped WATERPIK develop and evolve their design language to strengthen and elevate the WATERPIK brand. One of the collaborations resulted in the WATERPIK SIDEKICK, a travel size water flosser.
Scope of work included: consumer/market research, user experience, ergonomic studies, architecture exploration, form development, iterative rapid prototyping, CMF exploration, engineering/manufacturing support, and design strategy. Launched on February 2018.
WATERPIK’s existing water flossers are large countertop units, not designed with portability in mind. There was a need for a smaller, compact water flosser for people that frequently travel or have small bathrooms with limited counter space. Working with the mechanical engineering lead, we investigated different architectures and brainstormed ideas and user experiences for a water flosser that was small, compact, and travel friendly.

Form Explorations
I came up with the architecture where the base of the flosser can be disassembled and stored inside the water reservoir for storage and travel. After narrowing down to this architecture, we explored different forms and ways to nest the base and power supply into the water reservoir to minimize the overall travel footprint. We further refined each concept giving additional thoughts to details like key touch points, flosser stylus presentation, and travel storage.
